Two players with really different start of 2012 are meeting in this first round in Memphis.

Julien Benneteau is with nine wins and just four defeats this year. The Frenchman lost in the first round against Tomic in Brisbane, but than played a final in Sidney (lost in the last game against Nieminen). But in his way to the final Benneteau didn't lost a single set in the four games he played. In Australian Open the 29th in the world make it to the third round, where he lost to the surprise of the tournament Nishikori. Last week in San Jose he lost in the semifinals from Istomin. So now Benneteau is coming to Memphis in very good shape and he should have no problems to beat Petzschner. The Frenchman played here back in 2006 (semifinal) and 2007 (second round).

Philipp Petzchner on other hand is in bad for since the start ot 2012. He played seven games so far and won only two of them. In Brisbane and Australian Open the German lost in the second round, while in Zagreb and Rotterdam he got eliminated in the first round and both times in straight sets.

The two played had played three times between each other and Benneteau won two of them.
