O. Otte - D. Wu
I'm aware of betting against the market here because odds on Otte dropped from ~1.6 to 1.3 within one hour yesterday but i think it is more than worth a try because i would not rate the german player as the clear favorite here. Otte is still a young guy although he is 23 years old he has no big experience on Challenger level. He played Futures most of the time last years, and of course local club tennis in Germany. Otte had Main Draw record 0-4 on Challenger Tour last year, this year he is 3-1 so far defeating Corrie in St. Brieuc and Aoxiong Wang and De Minaur this week in Qingdao. To be honest defeating Corrie or this young chinese guy Wang is not a big deal. De Minaur was completly off on court. Had also big problems against Vanni. I would not overrate that. Otte has big potential, yes. He is tall and has a good serve and powerful groundstrokes. He is playing aggressive tennis. But i think Wu is the right opponent to break a guy like Otte. Wu is consistent baseline player with solid defense. He has no big weapons in his game. Wu was promising youngster but he will turn 26 in few months and had no breakthrough so far in his career. He is still ranked 100 ranking spots better than Otte although i am not the guy who is taking a deep look in such numbers because they are not that important on that level most of the time. It's true that Wu has a bad year so far, losing a lot but if we take a deep look into that losses most of them are solid and tough. Couple of tough losses against solid players like Duckhee Lee, Tiafoe, Kukushkin, Jahn. Chinese player has big experience, is playing regulary on the Challenger tour for almost five years. He played much ATP Tour level tournaments, also Grand Slam Qualies. His performances this week are good enough to give him a shot here. I don't think odds should be higher than 2.2-2.3.
