Wimbledon is the highlight of the summer sporting calendar for many. The Grand Slam event remains full of tradition, and it is the tournament players want to win more than any other.
Here is a look at the best bets in the men’s and ladies’ championships this year.
Matteo Berrettini to Win Men’s Championship – 6/1
Matteo Berrettini showed in 2021 that he is very comfortable on grass. He won the Queen’s Club Championship in London, at the time the biggest success of his career. The Italian defeated Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans, three home players, on the way to the title.
Just weeks later, Berrettini produced his best performance to date at a Grand Slam, as he reached the final of Wimbledon. The big server relished the fast conditions at SW19, eventually losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets in the final.
Berrettini is 6/1 to go one place better this year. He represents one of the best tennis bets at the tournament, as the experience of 2021 will stand him in good stead as he bids to win a Grand Slam for the first time.
Djokovic tops the betting to defend his crown, however, he has not played much tennis this year. Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz then follow in the betting, but their preferred surface is clay. Berrettini can outshine those three players on his return to the grass at Wimbledon.
Simona Halep to Win Ladies’ Championship – 12/1
Former world number one Simona Halep won the second Grand Slam of her career when she prevailed at Wimbledon in 2019. It came just over 12 months after she was victorious at Roland-Garros in her maiden Grand Slam success.
Halep has been consistently one of the best players on the WTA Tour over the last 10 years. She probably deserves to have more than two Grand Slam titles, and at the age of 30, she remains young enough to add to her tally.
The Romanian is 12/1 to regain her crown at Wimbledon this summer. She has not appeared at the tournament since she lifted the trophy on Centre Court three years ago. If she finds the kind of form she produced in 2019, she will have an excellent chance of coming out on top in the women’s draw again.
The 23-time WTA Tour winner started the year in the best possible way as she won the Melbourne Summer Set, defeating Veronika Kudermetova in the final. She is now working with Patrick Mouratoglou as her coach. The Frenchman helped Serena Williams to a lot of success at Wimbledon, so his experience is going to prove invaluable.
There have been glimpses of Halep showing her best tennis again recently. She reached the semi-finals at Indian Wells, before losing to the eventual winner and world number one Iga Swiatek. Expect to see her build upon that during what is a crucial stage of the season.
Wimbledon begins on the 27th of June and it will run through to the final of the men’s tournament on the 10th of July.
