Betfair Sets the Odds for Trump’s Re-Election

If you’ve been following election campaigns in the US, you know that Democratic nominees are scrabbling for the ticket to run against Trump later in November. Bernie Sanders has won the popular vote in the states that have voted so far, but he’s receiving intense competition from billionaire Mike Bloomberg.

On the other end, Trump isn`t worried about losing the upcoming re-election. He`s confident he will win and so do many bookmakers. Below is an overview of who Betfair and punters on the websites thinks will win the presidential election later in the year.

Donald Trump - Odds 1.57

Since late last year, Donald Trump has remained the man most likely to win November’s presidential elections, at least according to Betfair. His odds have been ranging from 30% to 50% and have remained higher than those of any Democratic nominee.

President Trump has already won the hearts of Republics, so there’s no doubt he will be in the ballot in November. What’s more, he has overwhelming support in his camp. He also has the advantage of being an incumbent.

But does that mean you should take Betfair’s odds and back Trump to win?

The Democratic Nominees

A few weeks ago, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders were the front runners in the Democratic Party. Then billionaire Bloomberg showed interest in the top position and immediately became one of the favourites to win a nomination ticket.

With the nomination process ongoing, Sanders leads the pack with odds 1.91 to win the party ticket. Bloomberg is second with odds 3.75 while former VP Joe Biden is third. Hillary Clinton, who’s not fighting for a presidential win, follows next while Warren trails her.

Interestingly, Betfair also lists Michelle Obama, Tulsi Gabbard and Tom Steyer as likely presidential candidates. The truth, though, is that none of them is fighting for a ticket.

That being said, the battle on who will face President Trump rests on Sanders, Bloomberg, Buttigieg and Warren. Some critics argue that Warren ranks higher than the two former mayors but trails Sanders.

Trump vs. the Democrats - Election Winner Odds

As mentioned, Donald Trump is the man to beat this year. And with odds 1.57 on Betfair, no one comes close. Bernie Sanders has odds 3.6 to win the election and Bloomberg trails third with odds 9.5.

Joe Biden, despite being the favourite to grasp the democratic tickets a few years ago now has odds 19.00 while Elizabeth`s odds stand at 101.0.

Can you Trust Betfair’s Odds?

Launched in 2000, Betfair is one of the biggest betting brands in the world. It pioneered lay betting, a gambling format it is globally associated with. Visit onlinebookies.info to read a detailed review of the company. Learn about its payments, bonuses and odds and why it`s one of the best bookies out there.

As a preview, Betfair has a history of providing near accurate odds for political issues. In 2016, the British brand correctly predicted Hilary Clinton would clinch the democratic ticket. It also gave her the best odds for winning the popular vote.

Back vs. Lay Bets on Betfair Exchange

Betfair is famous for providing a unique betting format called lay betting. Essentially, this system allows people to bet against fellow punters instead of the house. Here’s how it works:

  • Back Betting - this implies you are backing a specific team or presidential candidate to win
  • Lay betting - this means you are predicting a specific team or presidential candidate to lose

  • Let’s say you back president Trump to win November’s elections at odds 1.57. On Betfair, someone else could challenge your wager. In that case, they will be functioning as the bookmaker.

If Trump wins, you also win. If he loses, your money goes to the person who laid a bet against you. Betfair earns a small commission though.

Lay Betting on Trump vs. Democratic Nominees

Betfair’s odds for Trump to win the election via back versus lay bets range between 1.67 and 1.69. By contrast, lay bets vary between 1.7 and 1.72. Bernie’s back bets range from 4.4 to 4.6 while his lay wagers range from 4.7 and 4.9.

Although it might sound confusing, lay betting on Betfair is as simple as the odds show. With odds of 1.67, a £10 bet on the incumbent will award you £6.7 when he wins. Of course, you`ll also get your wager back.

On the other end, if you a lay a £10 bet on Trump to lose at odds 1.72, you’ll receive £7.2 when he loses. If he wins, though, you’ll lose.

    Beyond Politics

Although Betfair is the go-to platform when you want to bet on US, UK or other major political election, the betting site is deeply rooted in sports. When Andrew Black and Edward Wray launched the company in 2000, they opened it as a sports betting site.

In 2002, it became the first bookmaker to sponsor a football team when it partnered with Fulham during the 2002/03 season. Betfair introduced back and lay betting around the same period and it has remained the most popular betting exchange since then.

    Popular Markets

Betfair’s provides markets for both major and minor sports. That means you can wager on football and basketball or you could specialize in Netball and e-sports. You could choose American football or ice hockey, the company has it all.

Besides providing a long list of betting markets, the company offers competitive odds. That way, you get good returns for your investment no matter what you bet on. With their betting exchange, you don’t have to worry about not finding someone to match you back or lay bet.

With one million customers using the platform each month, you`ll always find someone to bet against. Of course, you can always stick to fixed-odds if you are not sure how to do lay-betting.

    Stream your Favorite Games

In addition to betting on sports, the Oscars and presidential elections, you can use Betfair’s mobile app as your TV. Not literally, but you can use it to stream football games, horse racing and other major events free of charge.
