Copa America 2019 Playoff Predictions
This year’s edition of Copa America 2019
has already brought so many surprises and great matches. We are only two rounds into the competition, and the battle for playoffs is fierce. Eight teams will get to play in the 2nd phase – winners and runners up from all three groups, as well as two best 3rd, placed teams. When it comes to the situation with outright odds winners, there were no changes when it comes to the main favorites. Brazil are still at the top of the list at 2.20 odds, but interestingly Argentina have dropped to 5th position. Here is a short recap of what happened in the group stages so far:
The whole event was opened with a clash between the hosts Brazil and Bolivia on 15th June. The atmosphere was great, which can’t be said for Carioca’s performance in the first half. The home team managed to break through the Bolivian defenses eventually in the second half. Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho scored two quick goals, while the final 3-0 result was set by Everton five minutes from the final whistle. When it comes to the second matchup in the first round, we didn’t get to see anything in a goalless draw between Venezuela and Peru.
The 2nd round has brought some controversies. Brazil hosted Venezuela, marked as massive favorites for the win. The home squad scored three goals, but every single one of them was disallowed by VAR technology. The game ended without goals. Peru and Bolivia were in a situation where one point doesn’t mean much, and we got much more action from that encounter. Peru were victorious 3-1.
Brazil are most likely to win this group after the third round (priced at 1.07), while Peru and Venezuela have solid chances to get through as well. The only squad without any chance is Bolivia.
One of the most discussed things nowadays when it comes to football is Argentina’s performance in Copa America 2019. Gauchos were the second favorite to win the whole thing, but so far they have only one point from two games on their balance. The situation is alarming. Anything but a convincing victory against Qatar in the last match is going to eliminate them. Champions of Asia definitely shouldn’t be underestimated.
The first shock defeat for Messi and co happened in the premiere appearance. Colombia have celebrated huge 2-0 victory thanks to the goals scored by Martinez and Zapata. Later on, Argentina took on Paraguay and barely escaped with a 1-1 draw. Their opponents even missed a penalty shot in the second half.
When it comes to above mentioned Atalanta’s striker, Zapata was the only goal scorer in Colombia’s 1-0 victory against Qatar. That win granted them a playoffs ticket, so Carlos Queiroz can even rest some of his players in the last round. Basically, all other teams in this group have a chance to play in the playoffs. Asian side will need to cause a big upset against Argentina though, while Paraguay needs all three points against the group winners.
This group was marked as the group of death before the tournament started, and before Japan’s Football Association decided to make one big decision for this event. They have sent young players from the domestic division to play, with the exception of two veterans. There was a lot of criticism coming their way, both from Asian and South American fans.
The action here started with two convincing victories. The reigning champions Chile have demonstrated brutal efficiency against Japan, winning the premiere match 4-0. Vargas scored twice, while Alexis Sanchez & Pulgar bagged one goal each. Chileans have won Copa America’s last two editions, but judging by the odds, their chances to repeat it for the third time are not that great. In the other matchup, Uruguay have surprisingly demolished Ecuador with the same 4-0 result. Their attacking trio is looking deadly as well. Suarez & Cavani have both scored in this encounter.
The second round has brought up a couple of surprises. Uruguay were flying after the initial victory and were considered a huge favorite against Japan. However, Asian vice-champions had a great match. Full time result was 2-2. Chile continued with their fantastic results and defeated Ecuador in the other game. The result was 2-1.
None of the players scored three goals so far. There are six names sitting at the top of this list, having scored two goals each – Coutinho, Miyoshi, Sanchez, Suarez, Vargas, and Zapata. At the moment Luis Suarez is priced at lowest odds to win this award. If you don’t fancy sports betting that much, preferring some fun in the casino, make sure to check CasinoBiggestBonus.com
