The 2022 Epsom Derby Festival is now only a few days away and this two day meeting features the third and fourth Classics of the season and attracts some of the best horses, jockeys and trainers on the Flat circuit. This meeting is a highlight for many racegoers and it takes place on the beautiful Epsom Downs every June with all of the
best free bet sites offering a range of promotions throughout the festival.
The two-day Festival gets underway on Friday and the feature race on Day One is The Oaks which gets underway at 4:30pm, the finest fillies of the year going head-to-head before the colts lock horns 24 hours later in Saturday`s feature, The Derby.
The Derby is the race which everyone gets excited about and while it doesn`t quite attract the attention of the general public quite as much as the
Grand National, it certainly comes a close second in the national consciousness. The 2022 renewal has added poignancy following the death of nine-time Derby winner Lester Pigott.
This is the biggest Flat race of the year and the total prize fund is some £1.5 million with £850,650 going to the winner.
Which horses are the main contenders in the 2022 Derby?
The outstanding contender for Derby glory this weekend is Desert Crownwho gave a devastating display at York in the Dante Stakes last month. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained runner put the Dante to bed in convincing fashion with a decisive turn of foot, thus sending him above Aidan O`Brien`s Stone Agein the betting market, the latter having impressed when finishing first past the post by five and a half lengths in the Leopardstown Derby Trial.
Another notable challenger from across the Irish Sea is Piz Badile, the Donnacha O`Brien-trainer runner having taken the Ballysax Chase last time out.
The Derby is generally the subject of many price boosts and free bet bonus offers from the leading bookmakers and you can claim these and many other promotions such as price boosts and enhanced places at leading bookmaker comparison site
