At first, I was willing to back Alcaraz but I made a 180 degree change of course. I believe that a lot of bettors will take the Spaniard as he is defending the title, had the tougher path to the final and has been flawless on grass. These are some public bet arguments. The Spaniard did indeed beat the tougher opponents but his game didn't look unbeatable at all. Serving hasn't been as effective as expected and he made some in-game decisions that were very questionable. I mean he tried to convert some risky balls for the crowd but an experienced player wouldn't do it. This is what the fans want but not what a player like Djokovic would do.
Djokovic was a big question mark before the tournament as a month ago he had a knee injury. He was cautious in the first matches and that's why he lost sets to Popyrin and Fearnley. De Minaur withdrawing from the tournament gave him a proper break and he came back with a 3-0 win over Musetti. In the match against the Italian, I sided with Djokovic covering the spread which he was going to do as he had a 5-2, 40-15 lead in first set. But eventually, he was broken twice at the worst moments and the bet failed. I don't doubt anymore his form, the knee looks fine and he made some incredible runs against Musetti. I think he has more on the line and he thrives in spots where he is not the "favorite>
Alcaraz's serving numbers should have been better and Djokovic is the best returner on tour. I think the Spaniard didn't show his best form in the tournament. It's enough for 95% of the players on tour but against Djokovic, it might be an issue. The Serbian is trying to break a few records today and it's rare to see him lose twice a Grand Slam against the same opponent. Grass is a surface to should suit Djokovic. He hasn't been playing at a 100% but then again, he didn't really need to do so against the opponents his faced. I think that the GOAT will be the hungrier player, with better tactical preparation and in a spot where he will win the crowd. May the better player lift the trophy but I will side with Djokovic at what I think it's a value call.
