Athletico Paranaense - Estudiantes LP:
Atlhetico PR will host Estudiantes at Arena da Baixada, for first leg of Libertadores round of 16.
Winner of match faces Atlético-MG or Palmeiras in semifinals.
Atletico is coming off a 1-0 victory over Sao Paulo at Arena Baixada, and is back in the top four of Brasileirão.
Hurricane won 1-0 on penalty kicks, and in midweek had drawn with Flamengo, at Maracanã, for Copa do Brasil quarter-finals, but bear in mind that Hurricane were able to win despite often featuring reserves in Brasileirao to preserve their best players for Copa Libertadores.
Athletico PR Felipão Scolari remains unbeaten at home with 11 wins and three draws.
On the other side, Estudiantes is not in good shape, with two wins in their last 11 matches.
Pincha were eliminated from Argentine Cup by Belgrano, they play in second division, occupying 22nd position in Argentine Championship, main national tournament has 28 teams.
It is worth noting that, like Atletico, team has prioritised Libertadores and used alternative formations in some matches, but tonight there will be problems with absences.
Path of two teams in this competition:
Hurricane finished second in Group B, with 10 points, same score as leader Libertad, The Strongest and Caracas completed with six points each.
In round of 16, Athletico and Libertad faced each other again, with a 2-1 win in Baixada and a 1-1 draw at home to Defensores Del Chaco.
Pincha was Libertadores Group C leader, with 13 points, against Vélez (eight points), Nacional-URU (seven points) and Bragantino (five points).
In round of 16, Estudiantes drew 1-1 in the first leg with Fortaleza at the Arena Castelão and won 3-0 in La Plata in return leg.
As Athletico Paranaense arrive:
Luiz Felipe Scolari, after saving some starters in Brasileirão, can field the best line-up, the coach counts on return of Pedro Henrique and Hugo Moura, reserves Matheus Felipe and Erick leave starting line-up.
David Terans who was disqualified in Brasileirão returns to starting line-up.
Finally, striker Pablo, who has recovered from thigh pain, could be the newcomer in attack, in case he cannot make it Vitor Roque is the alternative.
Bento; Khellven, Pedro Henrique, Thiago Heleno and Abner; Hugo Moura, Fernandinho and David Terans; Cuello, Canobbio and Pablo (Vitor Roque).
As Estudiantes arrive:
Argentine coach Ricardo Zielinski, has important absences, key defender Fabián Nogueira (Defender 11/0) is injured and also striker Leandro Díaz (Striker 10/2), in addition striker Gustavo Del Prete has been transferred to Mexican football.
Striker Mauro Boselli (Striker 10/1), who is not in the best physical condition, has recovered from a foot injury and is back, but has been out for more than a month, will be available, but will definitely start from bench.
Good news is that club has acquired two new players for quarter-finals:
Defender Nehuén Paz (Universidad Católica-CHI) and Uruguayan striker Mauro Méndez (Montevideo Wanderers), most likely only the 'striker Mauro Méndez will play.
Probable Pincha: Andújar; Godoy, Rogel, Morel, Lollo and Más; Castro, Zuqui, Corcho Rodríguez and Piatti; Mauro Méndez.
(Do you arrive in Brazil with five defenders, four midfielders and only one striker?
Do you think about defending?
All this leaves me perplexed).
Felipe Scolari is an old fox and is loved by the Brazilian people, Uragano will have support of his entire public and this means so much in South America, Estudiantes does not convince me at all and is not in good shape, with important absences, the best striker Boselli returning from a serious injury after more than a month of absence, choice to play with five defenders is a single point given absences in offensive department I don't think it brings something good plus they have lost another striker Gustavo Del Prete, gone to Mexico, Felipe Scolari will be able to bring home win in front of Athletico fans at Arena da Baixada, great value here in Brazil.
