Austria - Switzerland (won)

Austria and Switzerland have similar quality. They are among the teams that got most with the new formats with more teams in the big competitions because they always have good team, but rarely good enough for a big competition.

Austria were one of the hosts of the last Euro and they finished 8th, which was their best placement in their history. They had amazing partnership in Bylik-Bozovic, both were unstoppable. Posch, Weber and Frimmel complete the core of their team. Only Frimmel and veteran Weber are now in the team, other players who should be among the best are Maximilian Hermann, Zeiner and Tobias Wagner. This means that Austria only has good wings and weaker outer line.

Switzerland are the second team that received a call in the last moment, so they will have the pressure off. They're an average team and this call is very important for them because their chances to play in the Euro 2022 are very small after they lost at home against Macedonia. They also have Denmark in the group, so the luck is finally on their side, no matter that they could get the group with Egypt, Chile and Sweden. They are ready for this championship and they have their standard squad, including legend Andy Schmid, one of the best players in the World. The World Championship gets him and Kire Lazarov in the last moment, two living legends. Scmid is a complete player, a player who could be a leader in every team. Switerland owes him much. This is going their first appearance in a World Cup after 1995. They were surprise semifinalist back in 1993, when they finished 4th.

I wouldn't back Austria if they had Bilyk in Egypt, but without him, Bozovic and Posch, I see Switzerland as slight favorite. I expect Schmid to show his class and make the difference.
