Botev lost the first leg by 2-1 and they will hope to be competitive back in Bulgaria. It was a good showing from the hosts and they were able to match Panathinaikos' level. They had a few big chances including a cancelled penalty kick. The Bulgarian season has started and they have a couple of matches under the belt. It's the more well oiled team in terms of competition and they did a solid game against Lokomotiv Plovdiv last round. Iliev is the player to watch with his goal during the derby.
Panathinaikos did the job in Greece but didn't overwhelm Botev. True, they had a shot on the post and a few big chances but the Bulgarian squad played well. To the contrary to Botev, they are yet to start the Greek season and this lack of competitive preparation always impact defense. Offensively, it's a team that has too many options and depth. Players like Bakasetas, Djuricic, Mancini and Jeremejeff can score at any time. They might be less proactive on the road and give more room to Botev but they remain the favorite.
Botev has less depth in offense but has very experienced players up-front. Freshly signed Iliev gives youth to these veterans like Popov and I don't think we will witness a cleansheet in the second leg.
