The Sabres registered a couple of wins in a row against the Jets and Senators. Yet, the play-offs hopes are gone and that's because of their devastating month of December where they had like +15 losses in a row. The team lacks consistency and key elements in defense. Playing without pressure nearing the end of the season is usually propitious for goals and that's what I will be looking for in this match-up. The hosts are 0-2 against the Pens this season but both matches easily covered the total.
The Pens are out from the post-season as well. Thus, they are also skating without pressure. Defense has been a huge let-down this season and the team needs fresh talent on ice. They will have to make some moves like the Bruins and accept that the near future will be difficult. This being said, I can trust the Pens to score against the Sabres. The top-line remains consistent and that's the only thing that really works for the team. Malkin will most probably miss a second game in a row.
There are quite a few matches tonight but nothing really interesting. There are a lot of favorites but the spots aren't good. The last 2-3 weeks of NHL are difficult and that's the only game that looks appealing for a bet. I expect both squads to produce.
