The Hurricanes are set as favorites to win the series but I really think this is 50/50. Game 1 will be a good start for projecting a winner. However, I am not interested into picking a winner. The Canes lost only 1 game during the post-season. They show excellent defense, decisive offense and Andersen has been good on goal. Yet, the Canes have been one of the most Overish 1st period teams this season and that's what I will be looking for. Plus, Andersen was shaky in Game 1 against the Canadiens after a break.
The Knights have been playing solid hockey after the coaching change. But it's not only that, it's a veteran team that has experience and better run than the Canes for the past years. Just as the Canes, defense has been a difference maker in the post-season and the team managed to shutdown highly volatile teams. In regular season, the Knights are 2-0 against the Canes and the Over is 2-0 as well. Hart on goal has been an upgrade but the Knights have nearly a week of break.
As per ActionNetwork's editors, in the last nine Game 1 final play-offs games the average of goals was above 6.5 which implies that the first matches are volatile. Usually, teams adjust in the following games where the Under is more appealing. Considering that the Canes have been money in first period Overs and that Game 1 remain more dynamic, I think that the odds are interesting enough for the first period.
