Cerundolo is playing for the first time in the second week of a Grand Slam. That's only due to the fact that Sinner didn't support the heat. The Italian was minutes away from the win but Cerundolo made a historical comeback win. After that, he beat Landaluce in 6 hours. This is one of the longest matches in Roland Garos's history and very demanding due to the nature of the match-up. The Argentinian is a clay courter, with heavy top-spin and good court movement. However, does he have enough energy left?
Berrettini won 3 games in a row for the first time this season. For the past years, he has been struggling with all sort of injuries. This being said, he has been looking good in Paris and without physical issues. Last round, he took down Comesana in 5 hours. It was a tense and clutch match. It's also an excellent preparation ahead of Cerundolo since both Argentinians have similar styles of play. In any case, Berrettini has the edge in experience, raw forehand, serve and today's sunnier conditions.
Both players had devastating physical matches and recovery will be key. I still think that Berrettini should be fresher as 1 hour difference after 5 hours of match is exponentially exhausting and mainly because Landaluce was keeping long rallies. I am also taking the handicap on Berrettini just in case he retires - this will refund the bet. Last but not least, Cerundolo is a lefty so he will obviously attack the weak backhand of Berrettini. BUT, the Italian has been excellent against lefties for the past 10 years and 5/5 on clay. Plus, he has a good sliced BH.
