The Bears enter their season opener as home underdogs, and I see value in backing them. The team showed promise during the preseason, suggesting this season could be a significant improvement over last year’s struggles. Caleb Williams, their rookie quarterback, now has a full season of experience under his belt and will benefit from new offensive additions that give him more mobility. Key blockers like Joe Thuney and Drew Dalman have joined the roster, while first-round pick Colston Loveland adds fresh talent at tight end. Additionally, with Ben Johnson at the helm as head coach—known for his offensive expertise—the Bears could be in a strong position this year.
The Vikings, meanwhile, will rely on rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy, who missed his expected debut last season due to a preseason knee injury. This will be his first game, and he may struggle in this divisional matchup. While head coach Kevin O’Connell brings experience, I’m hesitant to back a rookie quarterback in his debut. On top of that, Jordan Addison is suspended for the first three games for a substance abuse violation, returning only in Week 4 against the Steelers. It also remains to be seen how Justin Jefferson will perform after a preseason hamstring issue.
While the Bears struggled last season and the Vikings did not, the key factor here is the quarterback situation. Caleb Williams has a full season of experience, whereas JJ McCarthy is making his first start. Considering the Bears’ strong offseason moves, I believe they have a good chance to win their opener at home.
