The Avs are currently experiencing a significant downturn in performance. Although they faced some struggles with injuries, the defense has improved, and I anticipate a bounce-back. Their recent games have yielded low results, but it's crucial to highlight that they generate offense, even if the puck doesn't always find the back of the net. Given their recent struggles in December, I'm approaching this with a lower stake, but I believe the home setting offers a good opportunity for a turnaround.
On the other hand, the Flames don't merit much praise either. As I've consistently mentioned, their offense is too unpredictable. While they can deliver stellar attacks one day, the next they might resemble an AHL team (no offense intended). Their defense and goaltending hover around average, and with Markstrom nursing a finger injury, Vladar will be in goal. To be fair, he has been relatively decent in this matchup, but I can't confidently give them the upper hand or consider an upset.
In simple terms, if the Avs don't secure a win, my trust in them will waver for some time. They have everything in their favor to clinch this game in regulation, as they did earlier in the season with a 3-1 victory.
