Yesterday, I went against Fils and backed Nakashima, but unfortunately, it didn't work out as planned. The American had numerous opportunities to defeat Fils in the third set, including multiple break points in various games. Fils appeared to suffer from cramping, or perhaps he was just pretending, because after receiving a massage, he seemed to recover remarkably well. Despite the circumstances, Fils managed to secure the victory in a tie-break. However, considering that he spent three hours on court and this being a career-high stage in the tournament, I don't think he has enough left in the tank.
Cerundolo possesses a similar style of play to Fils, or perhaps it's the other way around. Nonetheless, in my opinion, Cerundolo's game is more refined. After defeating Norrie in straight sets, he has certainly shown that he can also overcome Fils in a couple of sets. Cerundolo's powerful serve will pose difficulties for Fils in terms of returning, and his sharp forehands are on another level compared to Nakashima on clay. I believe Cerundolo has a clear advantage in this match, and if he remains focused, he can seal the deal in two sets.
I won't speculate on Fils' fitness, but regardless, I think Cerundolo is the right choice for this match.
