I understand that Mensik is a danger to any player he goes up against and Fils is far from perfect, however, with this line close to even money I have to make a play on the Frenchman. Mensik has the benefit of getting a free pass to this round by dodging Machac (who I firmly believe would have beaten him had he been healthy enough to compete).
These two guys have only played once in the bullshit "Next Gen" tournament where Fils gave him the business 3-0. This is a big step from that affair being a Master's 1000. The Frenchman is coming off of a huge Indian Wells where Medi knocked him out (luckily). Mensik was excused early from the desert by Kachonov and then had a awkward pre-Miami situation happen in DR where he lost in the Semi's to Dhzumur.
Fils is the better player at this stage in their career's and is coming off of 2 HUGE wins. I understand that the books think that he's basically cashed from the Zverev match and his deep in the desert, but this guy has no quit in him. It might be another 3 setter, but I don't see the Frenchman getting this far just to go down to Mensik.
If he doesn't retire from cramps he'll come away with the W, he's got too much momentum to lose before the Semi's. Or he gets a cramp and decides to play through it because he's proud (like a true moron) and we all lose our money... Nah that won't happen!
