Berrittini has never beaten Taylor Fritz. Like ever. So why should this happen on his home soil in a Master's 1000 when Fritzy hasn't even dropped a set?
In fact, if the Deamon didn't shit the bed in the second set tie-break being up 6-3 I'm not convinced everyone's favorite pudgy Italian would even be here. Fritz is coming off of a forgettable Indian Wells and a not so fantastic start to the season, with his loss to Shapo and DFA (Draper was understandable).
Mateo 'Bertoli' Berrittini has been ... "Serviceable" this year - winning mostly when expected to win and losing when expected to lose. He showed good resolve in his run here, but nothing that makes me think of him defeating a higher ranked player on his home soil.
At the end of the day I do actually think it will be close, but don't bet on something to happen that's never been done. Back the American.
