Herediano is actually a top team in Costa Rica even though in the first part of this season, in the Apertura they did not finish inside the top 4 places and could not fight for winning the title. They did win the title not so long ago in this country, back than it was quite a surprise as mostly Alajuelense and Saprissa won title after title back than.
And Alajuelense and Saprissa did play a double leg in the final of the Apertura to decide the winner. Saprissa drew 2-2 at home but lost 3-1 on the road. In the Semis, Saprissa had won 2-1 both legs with Cartagines. They started the Clausura drawing 2-2 at home with Punaternas FC, showing problems once more defensive wise.
They met here in the Apertura, and the game ended up with 6 goals scored total as they drew 3-3. Herediano started with a 2-0 win on the road. Both usually play quite attacking minded football, Saprissa does not use defensive minded tactics in such games, because they know they are excellent up-front and unstable defensive wise.
