FIS Cross country skiing world cup Östersund (Sweden), 10 km interval freestyle, men
Jan Thomas Jenssen was known to be good on mass start type of competitions but isn't necessarily at his best in intervals. Last week only 3 seconds between these two but it could well turn around with Vermeulen having established himself on a higher level this season. Jenssen was 7th but the 2nd worst Norwegian with all Norwegians within 15 seconds of each other.
I heard a podcast calling this track too heavy for Vermeulen but I believe Vermeulen could perform at his best on a heavy track, he is the prototype and has the same body type as Matti Heikkinen, Dennis Spitsov, Jens Burman etc, in my opinion. He had some trying for own solution in Ruka mass start and even if it looked that he was just ruining his own competition, managed to still finish 4th.
Meanwhile it is Jenssen who has less experience from World Cup level tracks but of course he is Norwegian... Anyhow I believe even if this Norwegian octuple win always raises headlines about the competitive level of the entire cross country world cup circus, maybe last week was abnormally good result for them, and doesn't really happen every week.
