I’m taking this early, as I don’t think we’ll get this price at kick-off. Liverpool have not looked good. The defence with Kerkez is not good enough, Frimpong is much better offensively than defensively, Van Dijk is far from his best and can be very nonchalant at times. Jacquet could certainly become a good player, but he obviously still lacks experience. The midfield is good, and up front Isak looks completely ice-cold.
Liverpool have nevertheless put in poor performances against both Newcastle and Forest, and they were probably fortunate to come away with a point against Forest.
Atlético are a robust team that love these kinds of matches and can compete with most sides. They played very evenly against Arsenal over two legs this spring, and in my opinion, that Arsenal team is much better than the current Liverpool side.
Historically, Liverpool have been extremely strong at Anfield in the Champions League, and Barcola will presumably arrive before the transfer window closes, perhaps along with several other reinforcements. However, Atlético have a good chance against this Liverpool team.
I give Atlético more than a 50% chance of taking points and see value down to 1.95 on Atlético Madrid +0.5 handicap.
