The Wild picked up a vital win in Game 3 and remain in the series. I did back the Avs in that match and obviously I got it wrong as they lost by 5-1. Did I get it wrong or Wild start to figure out the 5-on-5 play? Either way, the Wild looked good and confident. This version of the hosts is nothing comparable to the one in Game 1 & 2. Hughes and Kaprizov excelled. Wallstedt was back on goal and played amazing hockey on goal. Brodin and Eriksson are still very likely out - which remains a big blow. But, I like how the Wild played in Game 3.
The Avalanche was pretty much destroyed. After Hartman's goal to make it 3-0 for the Wild, Wedgewood was substituted and Blackwood took the nod. I would still expect Wedgewood to start tonight and the sub was perhaps to give him some rest. The conceded goals weren't his fault. The overall performance of the Avs was complacent and flat. They could respond tonight but the last change has definitely played in the Wild's favor and offense was properly neutralized.
I think there is value to back the hosts. They demonstrated excellent hockey in Game 3 and I said that I will not trust them until they can prove me wrong in defense. They did. So, I am taking the hosts at plus money and value. I hope Eriksson or Brodin makes it to the line-up but I am skeptical.
