In the previous Faroe Islands match, I bet against them mainly because of the statements made by the Faroese coach regarding their star player, Skipagøtu, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. Before the tournament, he said that Elias would only sit on the bench for one match, but in the end he played — and more minutes than anyone else — scoring nine goals.
I might be wrong again today and he could start on the bench, but I have the feeling he will play once more. After the last game, it was clear they immediately started treating his shoulder with ice, so he’s probably playing with injections. Now, after the draw against Switzerland, they still have a real chance of reaching the main round.
Against Switzerland they played a good match, especially in the first half. Even so, they could easily have lost, as the Swiss had a strong second half and even the chance to go two goals up and close the game, but they didn’t take it and the match ended 28–28.
Today against Montenegro, I expect another close game, where Mittún and Skipagøtu can cause a lot of problems to a Montenegro side that, on paper, is basically the Vujović brothers and not much else. Teigum did not perform well against Switzerland, and I expect some kind of reaction from him today, which would only help our bet.
Montenegro lost their match against Slovenia after scoring 40 goals (!!) — an absolutely crazy game that ended 41–40. My bet there was over 56.5, and I’ve never seen a line cleared in such a way. Although Slovenia look strong on paper, I already mentioned they have many absences for this tournament, and it showed: their defense was awful. The result may be misleading, because against a more solid defense they could lose heavily. Montenegro’s defense was also very poor, and they could suffer again today.
I like the Faroe Islands team total over, and I also like their outright win.
