Asian Games Men Football
This should be the "match of the round" and interesting only to see a glimpse of the North Koreans after "a while". That is, if there is a stream. It's been over 4 years since North Korean teams, national or club, have played any kind of international match. Yet at this first round they are set as the biggest favorites for their match.
It seems North Korean league has run during the corona despite the isolation. You can gather at least some info like that the leading scorer of that league this season is someone called Pak Kwang chon and also someone called Pak Kwang chon is included in North Korea team but is registered as a defender.
Expect some medals for North Koreans in weight lifting and
wrestling but it would be a big surprise if they managed that in MEN'S
football. When Norwegian or Russian cross country skiers were away for longer than or around 1 year (most frequent "official" reason: pregnancy), usually it seemed they returned back doped because they were at their career-best level immediately after break but then against what you would logically expect (if assuming no doping), their results became worse instead of better with more competitions. The marginal return of doping is less in football but also North Koreans could easily have had a "mass season" because untested certainly for long enough. Indeed if I was an authoritative leader of a nation that is exactly what I would command my athletes to do.
Chinese Taipei very shitty matches in AFC U23 qualification earlier this month but it should be noted they send a completely different team now (most players born in this squad 1999, in AFC U23 qualification even the age limit was 2001) and as far as I know as overaged players also included 2 of the 3 of their 2000's biggest "star players" Chen Po-Liang and Wen Chih-hao, also overaged goalkeeper. If you look at Taiwan senior squad they are handful at the moment with wins against Thai Lan and Philippines recently.
1999 age class is good for Taiwan, they qualified for AFC U19 in 2018 for the first time in 44 years but this was of course mostly due to an easy group. Anyway it shouldn't be even close as bad as the "recent match" suggest (0-4 against Turkmenistan, 0-8 against Indonesia), probably more close to that senior team of theirs.
