Panama have done well for a while under the radar on senior level, but also on youth level. It's one of those nations who are working very well behind the scenes. Their generations are actually very competitive these days. It is not so much because of a golden generation (of course it's very solid) but also more of a purpose and seriousness in the football program of Panama. Panama finished equal with Mexico in the group, 7 points each and easily made it to the next round, where they will now face Canada. They played 1-1 vs the favorites Mexico (in Mexico) and easily discarded Guatemala with 3-0.
This tournament has historically been absolutely dominated by Mexico, who has won this tour 13 times. Canada has 2 titles, but Panama has never won it, but maybe now is a moment to capitalise on?
Canada, also a nation on the rise in football, came to this round by finishing 2nd as well, behind Honduras in the group. They beat Dominican Rep & El Salvador. They have been doing good, but this generation is not sensational, it's young, a bit more experimental and still taking shape. I can see some flaws, but Canada have relied on the delivery of Santiago Lopez, but this will be a tough test.
Conclusion: I have to ride the momentum of Panamas youth rise, seeing as their results have been great, and they have taken Mexico to a draw in their own home.. I think they can also get past Canada here. Panamas squad is slightly older (have more 19 year olds) while Canada have slightly younger options, so I just see Panama having shown more in this tournament, and they can go far if they just pass this hurdle. Seeing as it is a knock out round, I will protect the draw, so draw no bet Panama is my choice (or Panama AH 0) as the market is also called.
