The Flyers have been out of the play-offs picture since weeks. They made a coaching change and since then, their hockey has been pretty good. Yet, they still play for nothing and have just a couple of games left before a nice break of a few months. They have been conceding a large number of goals for the past weeks but offense woke up big-time and the Jackets shouldn't be lazy on ice. Oddly enough, this team lost only 1 regulation game since the coaching change and hence I will take a safer shot with OT included.
The Blue Jackets have been excellent for the past week with 4 regulation wins in a row. This kept them in the race. Last night, the Canadiens choked a 2-0 lead against the Hawks and won only in overtime. This means that the Blue Jackets have a final golden chance for play-offs. The Habs have 89 points with 1 game remaining while the Jackets have 85 points with 2 games remaining. The picture is clear: the Jackets need 2 regulation wins to qualify and hope that the Habs will lose their last match in regulation. If this happens, the Jackets will qualify.
The Jackets will play against the Flyers and Islanders. These are two winnable games. Plus, the Habs will only play in 2 days so the Jackets will have to give 101% to take the Flyers and bring extra pressure in the play-offs push. The Habs will play the Hurricanes which is not an easy match and the Jackets still have some serious chances to take 4 points.
I will back the Jackets in OT even though they absolutely need a regulation win. This is just in case they fail to secure the points in 60 minutes but still pull the trigger in OT. The Jackets had their struggles this season especially with injuries but they brought me a lot of cash this season and I will trust them for this final push.
