Qarabag vs Dynamo Kyiv    (won)

Qarabağ lost in Lublin because of a defensive mistake after just ten minutes, but they were the team that managed to impose themselves territorially for long periods. In the first half alone, they had 66% possession, a 5-2 advantage in shots and an impressive 10-0 edge in corners. Kashchuk and Mouaddib found space early, and in the second half Mouaddib missed a very clear chance, almost with an open goal, that could easily have made it 1-1. In other words, the result gives Dynamo the advantage, but it did not exactly leave the impression of Ukrainian superiority that would justify treating Qarabağ as a secondary side in this second leg.

Now the tie moves to Baku, and the match-up looks even more favourable to the type of football Qarabağ want to impose. Qurban Qurbanov’s side are used to taking control of the build-up, pushing the full-backs high and looking for Zoubir and the attacking players in interior zones before accelerating in behind the defence. Dynamo, with a one-goal lead, naturally have less need to contest possession and can accept a lower block, but that also means spending longer periods defending close to their own box. That was precisely the pattern after the 1-0 in the first leg: the Ukrainian side gave up the initiative and tried to survive through organisation and transition.

Qarabağ also do not need to enter into an uncontrolled chase. One goal levels the tie, so they can build pressure progressively, work their circulation and try to pin Dynamo in their final third. If they manage to make it 1-0, the shape of the match changes completely: the Ukrainian side will no longer be able to defend the advantage exclusively and will have to step higher, creating more space for Qarabağ to exploit between the lines and in behind. That is an important scenario for this bet, because we are only backing the home win in regular time, not qualification.
