Rangers vs Jagiellonia    (won)

The Polish side arrive at Ibrox with a 2-1 advantage after a first leg in which they conceded after just four minutes through an own goal, but reacted immediately. Kajetan Szmyt scored in the 13th and 21st minutes, turning a situation that could have forced Jagiellonia to chase Rangers all night into an advantage that now completely changes the behaviour of the second leg.

It is precisely this state of the tie that makes the +1 particularly interesting. Rangers are the team that have to take the risk. At Ibrox, there will be pressure to start strongly, commit more players into the opposition half and quickly look for the goal that levels the aggregate score, but that can offer Jagiellonia exactly what they need: space to break. Adrian Siemieniec has players such as Szmyt, Jeremy Agbonifo and Jesús Imaz to quickly connect recovery and attack, while Romanczuk provides experience and balance in midfield. Jagiellonia do not need to dominate territorially to make this bet win; above all, they need to survive the pressure phases and maintain enough threat to force Rangers to also think about their own goal. The European squad confirms that Siemieniec still has those solutions available for the tie.

There are also reasons to doubt Rangers’ current ability to turn dominance into a comfortable win. The 2-1 defeat in Poland was followed by another 2-1 conceded at home against Hibernian, after the team had started the league campaign with a draw against Dundee United.

Ibrox remains a difficult environment, and it is perfectly possible that Rangers win the match. This, however, is where the choice of line becomes important. With Jagiellonia +1, a Polish win or draw gives us a green, while a defeat by exactly one goal returns the stake; we only lose fully if Rangers win by two or more. That means we do not need to claim that Jagiellonia are the better team or that they will necessarily protect their aggregate lead. We are simply saying that, based on what both teams have shown at the start of the season and the type of second leg the scoreline should create, I consider it too aggressive to require Rangers to win by a two-goal margin to beat our position.
