The market has Viking as the favorites here. Under the current circumstances, I believe this is a completely even matchup. Rosenborg have now played five games since appointing their new manager, and they have arguably been the better team in every one of them. Their away defeat against a strong Brann side came with an xG of 2.01–1.39 in Rosenborg’s favor, and they also had no fewer than 12 corners at Brann Stadion. They also deservedly won away against Lillestrøm. Viking have picked up plenty of points and are currently second in the table, but there is little doubt that they have also had some luck along the way. The numbers make that quite clear: Viking–Sarpsborg 08: 2–1, xG 2.12–2.15 Start–Viking: 0–3, xG 2.42–1.60 in Start’s favor Aalesund –Viking: 1–1, xG 1.95–2.42 So, these have been very even games against teams that are considerably weaker than the current Rosenborg side. Viking also had a couple of important players missing against Sarpsborg, and it is still somewhat uncertain whether they will be fit in time for this match. Their most important player, Tripić, is also suspended for this game. On top of that, Viking have an extremely important Champions League qualifying match just four days after this one. Last season’s meeting ended 1–1 in a completely even game, and Rosenborg were a much weaker side at the time than they are now. Rosenborg are used to playing on grass, while Viking play on artificial turf, so I also see the home advantage as fairly significant here. I’m therefore backing Rosenborg draw no bet and see value down to around 2.00 on this. Probably even lower if none of Viking’s injured players manage to recover in time.
