Shnaider has been solid in Toronto and has the game to challenge Swiatek. She defeated Sramkova, Kalinskaya and Pegula. These are three different types of players and beating Pegula in straight sets is a big boost. The American is one of the toughest counter-punching players on tour, so it's an excellent preparation before facing Swiatek. Shnaider's serve has been flawless in Toronto and she has a warrior mentality.
Swiatek is past her prime. In the sense that she isn't sustaining unbeaten runs of dozens of matches. In the last 10 games, she allowed at least a set in the 5 encounters. She had the "easier" path in Toronto as she beat Bejlek, Golubic and Kostyuk. I love the fact that she dropped a set against the Ukrainian lady as she has the same type of aggressive game as Shnaider. Swiatek's second serve is attackable.
Shnaider is sort of the Tom Dwan of tennis. She can go all-in in aggression and either it pays or not. They met in Madrid last season and it was a 3 sets story. Shnaider was baggled in the first set and she still won the second one. That's the sort of players I like to back for sets. She didn't do an Anisimova Wimbledon final.
