Vojvodina - Ferencvaros    (lost)

A Strengthening Vojvodina Awaits Ferencváros

FK Vojvodina is preparing for the new season with serious ambitions. Building on its second-place finish last season, the Novi Sad-based club has made targeted signings, and based on its summer transfers, it aims not only to play a leading role in the Serbian league but also to advance further in Europe.

Among the most notable new arrivals are Stefan Mitrović, Hamza Redžić, Nardin Mulahusejnović, Ifet Đakovac, and Dejan Zukić, who is returning to the club. Vojvodina has primarily strengthened its offense and midfield. Đakovac brings dynamism, Zukić brings creativity, and Mulahusejnović brings true center-forward play to the team. If Njegoš Petrović stays as well, the midfield could become one of Vojvodina’s strongest units.

On the departures side, there have been no major losses so far that would fundamentally change the team. Among the more notable departures from the previous season are Collins Sichenje and Stefan Bukinac, while reports continue to surface about Petrović’s possible transfer abroad. However, until there is an official announcement, he must be considered a key player for Vojvodina.

Head coach Miroslav Tanjga is building a style of play characterized by speed, aggression, and intensity. It was already evident in the preseason matches that the new Vojvodina is less inclined to rely on slow ball possession and could be much more dangerous on quick transitions.

The team’s biggest concerns are the depth of its defense and a lack of international experience. However, the roster has become stronger on paper, and they could be particularly dangerous in the matchup against Ferencváros, especially at home. Fradi is the favorite, but this Vojvodina team is no longer one that takes the field just to put up a respectable showing. In Novi Sad, they’re thinking in terms of a real chance to advance.

New Era Begins at Ferencváros

Ferencváros is undergoing a major transformation in the summer of 2026. After losing the league title, Robbie Keane left, and Balázs Borbély—who won the league with ETO—took his place. The appointment of the new coach marks a clear change in direction: Fradi is aiming to reclaim the domestic title with a smaller, more manageable, and better-organized roster, while also remaining competitive in Europe.

So far, roster moves have largely been about streamlining the squad. Among those who have left are Mohammed Abu Fani, Stefan Gartenmann, Ibrahim Cissé, Fortune Bassey, Ismaël Aaneba, Say Shadirac, and Cebrail Makreckis, and on July 8, Júlio Romao’s departure was also made official. It’s important to note, however, that not all of them were key starters, so the long list of departures is misleading on its own.

On the incoming front, Fradi has been more restrained so far. In addition to signing French center back Nathan Zohoré, several players on loan and young prospects have been given new opportunities. Borbély clearly wants to assess the existing roster first, and only then will decisions be made regarding further signings.

The biggest question is how long it will take the new coach to instill in Fradi the intense, organized style of play that won him the league title in Győr. The midfield still looks strong, but the depth of the defense is questionable. On paper, Ferencváros’s roster is still strong, but the new team is still taking shape. The European matchup against Vojvodina could therefore be the first serious test for Balázs Borbély’s Fradi.

So far, FTC has been the better team; Vojvodina hasn`t shown much creativity yet, but as the eternal law of soccer goes, an own goal is still a goal :D
