The Caps are not what they are used to be, and the Pens started this season slow as well, but Great rivalry is always going on between these two as we have seen classics over the years.
So the Pens are B2B here, getting whooped against Carolina last night, but The Canes are one of the best teams out there, so no big surprise. However, over the season, the Pens have been all over the place with their 'D. They have a terrible 368 SCA, only the Sharks have a worse 'D in that regard. How different this is with 1-2 years when I recall that they had top-notch 'D. Still, their top guys are still good, at least creating a lot of fuss in front of the opponent's goal, for instance, they shoot a lot on goal: 31.8 SOG per game which ranks them 7th, which is really solid. Between the pipes, we will likely see their 2nd goalie since this is a B2B game after all. So Blomqvist (expected), with a bad 3.47 GAA.
The Caps are hot and cold, but they have some quality offensive time zone, and with their 395 SCF (with 5vs 5), they rank even 12th which is for instance better than the Cats. At home, with 5 vs 5, they have a big 58.51 xGF% (3rd), just behind the Canes, which is impressive. Lindgren (2.70 GAA) is confirmed between the pipes.
B2B game for the Pens and especially on the defensive end they have been struggling mightily, so I will give the edge to the Caps in this one who are getting not only results at home but more importantly, they look well-balanced as well.
