At 38 years old and with just four singles matches under her belt in 2023, it's highly unlikely to expect an upset from the Russian player. She has lost all four of these matches and hasn't even come close to winning a set. It's unclear why she is attempting a comeback on the singles circuit, especially considering her vulnerability on serve.
Stephens, on the other hand, has had her fair share of ups and downs but has shown stability since the beginning of May in Strasbourg. She had a six-match winning streak before her loss to Azarenka in Madrid. If she can't defeat Zvonareva, it would be quite alarming or suspicious. Interestingly, they faced each other 13 years ago when Zvonareva was at her peak and Stephens was just a teenager. Given the circumstances, I believe the head-to-head record could be leveled today.
Unless Stephens completely underperforms in this match, I can't find any logical reason to expect an upset. It's the qualification week for the French Open, and it's only the first round in Morocco. It would be surprising if the American player rushes to move straight to Paris.
