2nd round of the 2nd stage, this looking as the best bet for today. Both teams don't have some urgent target at the moment, not strong enough to fight for a top spot or place in the international competitions, at the same time at decent distance (for now) from the relegation zone. But Manta with 5 pts less than Olmedo could use better the points from this game to keep confident about their salvation because it is still long way to the end of the season.
First reason for the bet is that both teams are picking points exclusively at home. Manta (one of the very few Ecuadorean teams playing at the sea level) use well their advantage hosting teams from high altitude such as Olmedo maintaining 6-3-2 record at home with 12:4 goal difference. Their main problem in the first stage was in attack, worst scoring record in the whole league which was expected with the leaving of the goal machine Julio Bevacqua (again topscorer in Ecuador but for Deportivo Quito). Obviously the club bosses took this too hard and for the 2nd stage acquired whole 3 new Argentinean strikers - Luis Miguel Escalada (few years ago played again in Ecuador and scored 45 goals for Emelec and LDU Quito), Alexis Olivera (last season 14 goals for Racing Cordoba) and Emiliano Bonfigli (last season 16 goals for Almagro). Escalada and Olivera missed the previous game at Deportivo Quito because their papers weren't ready but now everything is cleared and they are available for tonight.
Olmedo started well winning over LDU Quito 2-0 in Riobamba, helped by the fact LDU had 2 players sent-off but when it is up to away games they are really poor, along with the last ESPOLI having worst away record in Serie A - 1-2-8.
Additional fact for this game is that Manta are celebrating their birthday and the board announced free entrance for tongiht so there will be more fans than usual and good atmoshpere on the stadium. With the new reinforcements in attack (especially Escalada) Manta should be better and more dangerous upfront compared with the first part of 2011 and solid favorites for the 3 points.
